Regular City Council Meeting Minutes 

City of Porter 

August 7, 2023 6:30 p.m. 

 

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Donald Verschelde. 

 

Council members present were Kim Jelen, Donald Verschelde, Josh Sumption, Pat Vlaminck, Craig Peterson, and Judy Verschelde.   

 

Also present was Lawrence Peterson. 

 

Mayor Donald Verschelde called for the reading of the minutes of the July 5, 2023, Regular City Council meeting.  Minutes were approved as read in a motion by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Craig Peterson.  All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.

Special City Council Meeting with Bollig will be held on August 28, 2023 at 6:00 pm. 

​

The dump will be burned when conditions allow. 

​

Lawrence discussed the water tanker issue with the city.  He found a used one that could be purchased.   

 

A motion was made by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Craig Peterson to authorize Lawrence/Fire Department to purchase a used tanker.  All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried. 

​

Olson Sanitation has raised their rates by 11% (first increase since 2013) and Lincoln-Pipestone Rural Water has increased their rates by 8%. 

A motion was made by Josh Sumption, seconded by Pat Vlaminck to update the City of Porter’s Ordinance 2003-2/Fee Schedule to reflect the water and garbage rate increase.  All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried. 

 

559,000 gallons of water was used. 

 

A motion was made by Josh Sumption, seconded Craig Peterson, to pay the bills as read.  All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.  

 

A motion was made by Craig Peterson, seconded by Pat Vlaminck, to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
