Porter's Historic Jail

Porter Jail was built in 1897, as a two room, 4 inmate jail facility to hold unruly citizens. Now (2000) it is the only Jail in Yellow Medicine County, and the only jail remaining of it's type in the are. The jail was restored and converted to a small museum and placed on the National Registry of Historic Sites in 1994. The museum houses numerous pieces of Porter's history, and has a honorary "Lone Tree" planted in the lot behind it in memorial of the town's beginning.
