Regular City Council Meeting Minutes
Monday, April 5, 2010, 6:30 p.m.
Mayor Donald Verschelde called the regular city council meeting to order.
Council members present were Eric Dybsetter, Kim Jelen, Darlene Moeller,
Donald Verschelde, Judy Verschelde, and Pat Vlaminck
Ken and Linda Hennen were also present.
Mayor Donald Verschelde called for the reading of the minutes of the March
1, 2010 City Council meeting.
Minutes were approved as read in a motion by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Kim
Jelen. All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
The city received lawn mowing bids from Serenity Landscapes and from Linda
Hennen. The bids were read.
The low bid for all parcels was from Serenity Landscapes.
Darlene Moeller made a motion to award the mowing of all city parcels
to Serenity Landscapes. Pat
Vlaminck seconded the motion, all were in favor with none opposed, and the
motion was carried. It was
discussed that complaints were received about the quality of the mowing job
in 2009 by Serenity Landscapes.
If further complaints are received this year, the agreement with Serenity
Landscapes will be revoked.
The Porter Fire Department responded to a grass fire in the ditch of County
Road 12 north of Porter. Eric
Dybsetter will send a bill to the Yellow Medicine County highway department.
The condition of city streets was discussed.
Several areas are in need of repair.
The issue was tabled until a future meeting.
The most recent meeting of the zoning committee was discussed.
Pat Vlaminck reported that the Porter Elevator is planning to move
ahead with expansion plans. The
zoning committee recommended that the council approve a building permit for
construction of a grain bin, grain leg, and dump pit.
Kim Jelen made a motion to approve a building permit for an expansion
of the Porter Elevator. Darlene
Moeller seconded the motion. All
were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
Pat Vlaminck reported that the fire department has been awarded a FEMA grant
for fire equipment worth approximately $16,000.
The grant will be used to purchase hoses and ladders for the new
378,000 gallons of water were used in March.
Kim Jelen made a motion to pay the bills as read by Judy Verschelde.
Darlene Moeller seconded the motion.
All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
A motion was made by Darlene Moeller, seconded by Pat Vlaminck, to adjourn
the meeting. All were in favor
with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
