Minutes of the City of Porter

Regular Council Meeting

Monday, April 3, 2006

6:30 p.m.

 

 

 

Mayor Donald Verschelde called the regular city council meeting to order.

Those present were Bonnie Olson, Kim Jelen, Donald Verschelde, Pat Vlaminck, Judy Verschelde and Darlene Moeller. Also present were Larry Stoks, Jule Jacobson, Justin Hurt, Vince Robinson-DSI, Linda Hennen, Nancy Longhenry, Norma Johnson, Josh Sumption and Terry Knutson.

 Mayor Donald Verschelde called for the reading of the minutes of the March 6, 2006 City Council meeting. Minutes were approved as read in a motion by Kim Jelen, seconded by Darlene Moeller. All in favor, no one opposed.

A motion was made by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Darlene Moeller to increase the mowing price to Linda Hennen, 5% above last years mowing price. All in favor, no one opposed.

The Harvest Festival Committee was present at the council meeting. They presented the council with a preliminary poster with the activities for the 125th  which will be in August 2006. A motion was made by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Kim Jelen to donate $1000 to the committee for the 125th Anniversary. The committee is looking for replacements. Anyone interested please contact Nancy Longhenry.

A motion was made by Kim Jelen, seconded by Darlene Moeller to donate a non-intoxicating malt liquor “off sale” license to the Porter Harvest Festival committee for the Porter Harvest Festival. All in favor, no one opposed.

A motion was made by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Kim Jelen to grant a non-intoxicating malt liquor “off sale” license to Justin Hurt for Sunday, August 20, 2006, from 12 pm to 8 pm. All in favor, no one opposed.

Vince Robinson from DSI updated the city council on the grant progress.

A motion was made by Darlene Moeller, seconded by Kim Jelen to designate the HEDA account as the revolving small cities re-hab funds account. Darlene Moeller, Kim Jelen and Bonnie Olson voted in favor, Pat Vlaminck abstained from the vote.

Josh Sumption representing SW/WC reported that a majority of schools in southwest Minnesota are going to be doing a wide area network.

Josh Sumption is  also concerned about the Post Office not being open later in the evening to pick up mail.

A discussion was held about the City Council minutes being on the Porter website. The clerk will email the monthly minutes to Josh Sumption to post on the website.

A request was made by Jule Jacobson to either build a machine shed on his property or to move a barn from Norma Johnson’s property to his property.

A motion was made by Kim Jelen, seconded  by Pat Vlaminck to adopt the following resolution:

Resolution 02-2006  Mutual Aide Agreement

All in favor, no one opposed. Adopted by the City of Porter Council on April 3, 2006.

A motion was made by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Darlene Moeller to allow the Porter Town and Country Club to use the fire hall for clerking on April 22, 2006.

Larry Stoks gave the water report. He will test the water at the pond. An influent sample was sent in. A sample of drinking water was sent in and the sample came back good. There were 362,000 gallons used.

A motion was made by Kim Jelen, seconded by Darlene Moeller to pay the bills as read. All in favor, no one opposed.

A motion was made by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Kim Jelen to adjourn the meeting. All in favor, no one opposed.
